The adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” can be applied more often than not to the automotive industry. Here at O’Brien Subaru of Fort Myers, we believe that the formula for making new Subaru models is a good one, and year after year, the automaker proves that working with a proven formula is definitely the key to the brand’s success.

Popular Subaru models like the 2017 Subaru Outback are proof that our favorite automaker knows what it’s doing. From winning the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick + award over and over again, to selling more models every year, it’s doing something right. But simply building upon an existing empire isn’t always enough. As people and families grow, so does their need for a bigger vehicle. That’s why Subaru automakers are setting their sites on tackling the full-size SUV market with the upcoming 2018 Subaru Ascent.

The new Subaru Ascent will round out the automaker’s lineup giving customers more options than ever before when it comes to finding the best and safest family vehicle. The Subaru Ascent is a full-size SUV complete with three rows and space for up to eight passengers. The exterior is stylish and sleek while still maintaining the signature Subaru model look, complete with the classic Subaru grille and C-shaped headlights. It looks like a mix between the 2017 Subaru Forester and the Subaru Outback.

Underpinning the vehicle is an adapted version of the Subaru New Global Platform. Inside the vehicle, it feels luxurious with refined materials and a large center infotainment touchscreen. Even the window and mirror switches are touch-sensitive. As for power, nothing is certain yet, but sources indicate that it could have a newly developed turbocharged horizontally opposed 2.4-liter four-cylinder direct injection engine.

While the new Subaru Ascent isn’t out just yet, there’s still plenty to explore here at our Fort Myers, FL Subaru dealership. Head on down today for our Subaru Spring Service event and our Memorial Day sales event for great deals all around.

The new model features wider and lower grille openings and a new bumper. The headlights are also redesigned and feature daytime LED running lights to improve vehicle visibility. New Subaru Ascent Concept Model Unveiled

2017-Subaru-Impreza-2.0i-Interior-Steering-Wheel (700x438)

Subaru models have a certain look and feel to them. It’s one that often conjures up images of a hatchback like the 2017 Subaru Outback traversing the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. And while that imagery isn’t wrong, it also isn’t the only thing that the Subaru brand is capable of doing. It’s true that there hasn’t been a full-sized Subaru model on the market since 2014, but now that’s all about to change, and this new concept vehicle manages to mix the rustic Subaru model feel with something fresh and enticing.

The Subaru Ascent, a three-row SUV, debuted at the New York Auto Show. While technically still a concept, the Subaru Ascent looks promising and could be the perfect vehicle for larger families. It features large boomerang headlamps surrounding a massive grille, a stout body, and definitive lines. It follows the Subaru Viziv-7 concept that we saw last year. It’s a full-size SUV, complete with three rows, but that doesn’t stop it from looking lean and graceful.

Like most new Subaru cars, the Subaru Ascent will feature all-wheel drive and an upgraded engine. It’s a turbocharged 2.4-liter flat-four engine with direct injection. The word on horsepower and torque aren’t out just yet, but we’re confident that the numbers will live up to the speculation. We also believe that it will feature the classic continuously variable transmission which compliments the comprehensive all-wheel drive system.

Inside the concept vehicle shown off at the auto show was a white and brown leather interior and many touchscreens that control everything down to the windows. If you look closely, it appears to be a larger version of the new and highly successful 2017 Subaru Impreza. The automaker hasn’t announced yet when it will unveil the production model of the Subaru Ascent, but if it’s anything like the comprehensive concept we’ve seen, this seven-passenger SUV will be hard to beat.

Explore Subaru Model History

Today, new Subaru models are known for being some of the most reliable and safest vehicles out on the road. Year after year, Subaru vehicles win the Top Safety Pick Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. But you don’t get to be one of the most reliable brands without a little hard work and a lot of ingenuity.

Here at O’Brien Subaru of Fort Myers, we believe that a long line of successful vehicles and innovation has been the key to success, and it all started back in the 1950’s. The original model was known as the P-1, or the Subaru 1500. It featured excellent comfort and stability utilizing a front-wheel wishbone-type independent suspension complete with coil spring and double-action oil damper combination. The back featured a rear-wheel rigid axle suspension with a three-leaf spring and a double-action oil damper combination. This setup would be the beginning of the automaker’s life-long dedication to comfort and overall safety.

After years of innovation from Subaru automakers with all types of vehicles like the minicar and what would become the hatchback we know today, the brand released the Subaru Legacy in 1989. It was the first foray into the company’s 2.0-liter engines. The car was designed for the modern era at the time and that meant that the automaker needed something fresh. They would eventually settle on a horizontally-opposed engine with all-wheel drive, two features that make Subaru models still stand out today.

By 1992 the Subaru Impreza was launched and by 1993, the Subaru Legacy would set the world speed record for station wagons. Over the next couple decades, the company would refine and revise their models into what we know today. To experience modern innovation built on legacy, head on down to our Subaru dealership near Naples, FL today.

It’s also available in several trims: the Subaru Impreza 2.0i base trim, Premium, Sport, and Limited. The Subaru Impreza features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque.

Available features include the Subaru Starlink Multimedia system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Keyless access with push-button start, and multi-screen, multifunction displays, which offer a plethora of information from navigation to fuel efficiency to entertainment functions.

Subaru automakers have also done a lot of work when it comes to other practical areas like cargo space and safety. The new Subaru Impreza offers cargo space that’s four inches wider on the hatchback and five inches wider on the sedan. And if you have small children who need a car seat, you’ll have an easier time than ever with easy access to the rear latches through Velcro straps and three anchor points behind the rear seats.
