The 2015 Subaru WRX got a pretty full redesign so for 2016 Subaru automakers are focusing on improving your driving experience and safety. And they’ve pretty much hit a homerun in both departments.
In terms of technology, each of the four main trims on the 2016 Subaru WRX, and the many sub-trim levels earn an upgraded touchscreen interface that also includes an awesome new integration technology for smartphone app integration.
Though the performance and powertrains have remained the same from the 2015 model, even the base engine remains one of the best in its class. Going from 0-16 mph in less than six seconds, the 2.0-liter turbocharged “boxer” engine provides a quick and fun ride with 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. And it handles exceptionally well on twists and turns too.
While we love to talk about how well a vehicle can perform, Subaru vehicles have always been about safety. And that’s more evident than ever in the 2016 Subaru WRX. The optional, but highly recommended front-crash prevention system has earned the highest 2015 Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS. The 2016 WRX also includes an optional EyeSight driver-assistance and safety system.
Overall, the 2016 WRX earns “good” ratings in five IIHS departments while getting the elite, “superior” rating for the front-crash prevention system. The EyeSight system uses stereo camera technology to detect objects around the vehicle that may cause a problem such as other cars, pedestrians, and cyclists, and the vehicle offers to pre-collision braking to mitigate collisions.
