A recent announcement from the U.S. Department of Transportation announced a decrease in the number of traffic related fatalities in America during 2010.  The drop is roughly three percent below 2009’s numbers and equals the lowest fatalities since 1949, which is the first year that  the government began keeping record.  What’s more, Americans reported that they drove more miles in 2010 than in 2009 (and certainly than was driven in 1949).

This report is wonderful news but we must admit, as a creative writing to write supplying Ft. Myers Subaru Outback vehicles, we at O’Brien Ft. Myers Subaru are not shocked by these new, record low numbers.  This is because over the years, we have witnessed first hand how the safety features on the vehicles stocked on our Ft. Myers Subaru dealership lot have steadily increased.  Currently, Subaru vehicles are some of the safest vehicles in the world to drive and that is really saying something, considering the safety of all vehicles on the roads has increased dramatically over the past few years.

However, despite the encouraging news, we at O’Brien Ft. Myers Subaru, along with our fellow automotive dealers and the U.S. Department of Transportation, understand that our job in promoting automobile safety is not complete until we’ve achieved zero fatalities on our roads.

“Last year’s drop in traffic fatalities is welcome news and it proves that we can make a difference,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood.  “Still, too many of our friends and neighbors are killed in preventable roadway tragedies every day. We will continue doing everything possible to make cars safer, increase seat belt use, put a stop to drunk driving and distracted driving and encourage drivers to put safety first.”

A simple way to assist in Secretary LaHood’s goal is by switching to a safer vehicle than you currently drive in Fort Myers.  Subaru Outback vehicles, as one example, are praised for their safety features, not to mention their aesthetics.  They are great vehicles for both families and singles who have items or pets to haul.
