Earlier this year, the 2011 model of the Subaru WRX went on sale at Subaru dealerships across the country. The 2011 model carried over some features from previous models, but at the same time it represents the continuous evolution of the WRX. Today I’d like to share just a little bit about the 2011 Subaru WRX with you.

Let’s start by doing a quick review of the progression of the WRX. In 2009, Subaru introduced a chassis tuning upgrade as well as a new 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine that produces 265-horsepower. Today this engine is still in use and is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission and continuously all-wheel drive. Following these changes, new Limited trim lines were released for 2010 models to help the WRX appeal to a wider base of driving enthusiasts.

The changes continued this year, the most significant of which is a wide-body design which mirrors that of Subaru’s performance flagship model, the WRX-STI. Of the 2011 WRX, Tom Doll, executive vice president and COO of Subaru of America, Inc., remarks: “The new wide-body designs mark another major step on the continuous evolution of the WRX to give driving enthusiasts an even more compelling all-wheel drive performance package.” As a result of the wide-body design, there’s an added 1.5” on the front and rear track as well as wider 17” tires. The wider track and tires, along with the addition of firmer rear sub-frame bushings, lead to enhanced grip. With all these changes, the WRX weighs an additional 34 pounds but it does not lose any acceleration capabilities.

The 2011 WRX truly is the all-wheel drive performance package. It is available to you at your local Subaru dealership, O’Brien Ft. Myers Subaru.
