The new Subaru model lineup hasn’t had a midsize, three-row SUV for nearly five years but that’s all changing thanks to the 2019 Subaru Ascent. We’ve gotten information about the promising new Subaru Ascent, but until recently, not many people have had a chance to drive one of these family-friendly SUVs. Now that they have, we’re getting more information about what Subaru automakers are offering in this much-awaited model.
The 2019 Subaru Ascent is an attractive three-row SUV that blends the brand’s iconic look and feel with some new elements that will make it a strong contender within the segment. This Subaru SUV is powered by a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that puts out 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Like other Subaru models, it runs on a continuously variable automatic transmission that powers all four wheels.
Standard features on the base model are relatively robust. The base model features 18-inch wheels, automatic brake hold, roof rails, a conversation mirror to interact with rear passengers, 6.5-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto®, and the Subaru EyeSight® safety suite.
The interior is classy and comfortable, offering a solid environment for both long and short trips. Controls are well placed for easy and intuitive use, and the touchscreen sits higher up, allowing for minimal distraction when using it. A Wi-Fi hotspot and available streaming apps are also available to keep passengers occupied on those longer trips.
As far as cargo space goes, the rear offers 17.8 cubic feet of space, which is good for vehicles of this size, as well as a large underfloor bin. Folding down the rear seats expands the cargo area to 47.5 cubic feet.
