The is one powerful car that stands out from the rest of the Subaru lineup because of its performance and looks. It doesn’t take long to look at a Subaru WRX STI and notice how different it appears from the rest of the Subaru model family.

While similar in profile to the popular 2018 Subaru Impreza, the Subaru WRX leans on harder edges and more sculpting to give it its signature look. But with the Tokyo Auto Show this week, it seems like the beloved sports car is about to get a pretty substantial upgrade to its look and feel.

Last year, Subaru automakers showed off their Subaru Viziv performance concept car at the same show, and this year we’re going to see where that concept has gone. According to Subaru Design Chief Mamoru Ishii, the long-awaited next-generation Subaru WRX STI will be heavily inspired by the Subaru Viziv concept.

From the few teaser images that we’ve been able to see, the new Subaru WRX STI design gets outfitted with a variety of sporty components like a large rear wing, STI logos abound, and plenty of red accents around the grille, bottom, and exhaust areas.

As far as engine specs go, the automaker has kept a tight lip, though it was announced that the usual turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer engine wouldn’t be present. This could be an indication that the automaker is looking into electric components to improve performance.

All in all, it’s looking like the official unveiling of the new Subaru WRX STI is going to be a big one that brings plenty of exciting changes and upgrades. We’ll keep you posted right here at O’Brien Subaru of Fort Myers with new details as we learn them.
