The is perhaps the flagship Subaru model in the family. Subaru has made its name over the years due to its production of excellent all-wheel drive wagons that are stylish, safe, and fun to drive. And the 2016 Subaru Outback holds the torch high.

Carrying over from a major and very well done redesign in the 2015 Subaru Outback, the 2016 model gets some excellent upgraded and refreshments, notably in the technology area, among others. The Outback is probably the most iconic Subaru model though the is up there. In fact, the original Outback was based on the smaller  Impreza hatchback, and it now shares underpinnings with the Subaru Legacy.

But what makes the Outback the mainstream, grown-up Subaru model? Well part of the equation is that the Outback is a great family vehicle that’s not solely built for families. It’s a great crossover that offers you the capabilities and cargo space of a larger SUV without the size and carbon footprint.

The 2016 Outback is also extremely easy to drive. Despite the fact that it can venture off-road and has a high ground clearance that’s closer to that of larger SUVs, the vehicle is extremely capable, comfortable, and practical. The base 2.5-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine puts out 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. Which should be enough for the casual driver. And the all-wheel drive with continuously variable six-peed transmission complete with paddle shifters is a nice touch.

And what we love about the 2016 Subaru Outback here at O’Brien Subaru Ft. Myers, is that it’s the little touches and improvements that show us the company hasn’t built a vehicle for the vehicle, they’ve built it for the driver. Small touches like a dedicated cell phone slot, easy access buttons, new infotainment screen and more. Things like EyeSight keep you feeling safe and the new Subaru Starling option adds automatic crash notification and Internet-based apps like Stitcher and Pandora. From the smart drive to the smart features, the 2016 Subaru Outback has earned the praise from us. But we invite you to come and test drive for yourself anytime.
