Despite having a reputation for catering to the adventurous and outdoorsy driver, the Subaru brand has a strong foothold in the sports car market–whether it’s the 2017 Subaru WRX or custom built 2017 Subaru Impreza models. There’s also the 2017 Subaru BRZ, which is the most sport looking car in the family; however, despite its looks, this car hasn’t quite been the performance model that fans immediately gravitate towards.
That’s all about to change with the upcoming introduction of the Subaru BRZ STI version. To this point, all we’ve gotten is a teaser image to satiate our curiosity. And like salt water, it’s only made us thirstier. The image we’ve been given, which was posted on Facebook, shows only the front left wheel of a version of the Subaru BRZ which has only been available in Japan until now. But we can learn a lot from that simplistic photo. The photo shows top-of-the-line Brembo brakes sitting behind a blacked-out Subaru STI rim. The tire bears the name of Michelin Pilot Sport, a reputable name in the industry, and finally, in the background, we can see a stout chin spoiler jutting out from underneath the front bumper.
What’s interesting about what we can see is what it says about what we cannot see. If we look at the Japanese version of the Subaru BRZ STI model we know that it comes outfitted with a sportier suspension, stronger half shafts, more bracing for the engine bay, and a slew of interior upgrades. Here at O’Brien Subaru of Fort Myers and serving the greater Naples, FL area we’re hopeful that the Japanese version of the vehicle will be a large influence on the American model. It’s not certain yet whether the Subaru BRZ STI version of the car will have more power than the other model, but we can expect refined performance regardless.
